Well 2 days before the start of the new series I finally got official word that I have not made it to this years Mastermind. I knew it was going to come after the long wait but it was nice to receive a letter that was very pleasant. I assume they were mass produced rejection letters but I will certainly be applying again.
The team stated there had been so many applications this year (as well as auditions I know they had visited WQC sites on the scout for people) that it had taken so long and that I was "very close" (I assume everyone got the same?).
They have however offered me tickets to the recording of the show at the new Media centre in Salford which I am considering attending. Never seen a live TV show being filmed before and it might be good to see it all happen for future reference when I make it into the chair!
Hi Daniel,
ReplyDeletesorry to hear that, I also applied and have heard nothing, so am assuming I was unsuccessful too!
I'm just going to revise hard and apply again next year.
Julian
I received my rejection letter today, telling me I had come very close etc with the offer of free tickets and to try again.
ReplyDeleteWhen I attended the audition on May 30 I was told 4/5 weeks and have been following your blog to see if you'd heard any news.
I think I got between 8 and 11 out of 20. I was hoping my specialised subjects, not been done before might have given me a chance but it wasn't to be.
Commiserations to you.
Hi Nigel and Julian
ReplyDeleteI think I got about 14 right on the GK. I was able to get a copy of the paper they used for auditions as they were giving them out at the WQC and looking back over it I am sure I got 14 now but maybe wrong.
Nigel, commiserations too that you did not make it this year but hopefully we'll try again and be succesful

ReplyDeletesorry - too many typos in last post. Right - Hi and commiserations to all three. Dan told me earlier in the week about the outcome of the audition, and I'm sorry that all three of you didn't get in. What I will say is what I said to Dan - if you possibly can make it to see the show being recorded, it's a really good idea to do so. If you reapply - and I hope that you will do - then there's every chance you might make it this time. When you get on the show the first time that you walk onto the set, past the chair, can be really unnerving. I firmly believe that you get better on mastermind the more that you do it, and if you have at least experienced the atmosphere in the studio during a recording then you're really giving yourself a head start when you get on the show
