Revenge of the Egghead - New TV Show

Firstly read the official contestant call below which is also on this site HERE

Revenge of the Egghead (working title)

| BBC Two

The makers of Eggheads are looking for lively, intelligent and competitive personalities who would like to take part in a brand new BBC Two quiz programme.
Thousands of pounds could be won and we're holding nationwide auditions now.
Revenge of the Egghead (working title) is produced for the BBC by 12 Yard Productions.

It appears that this show is going to star CJ in a show that sounds similar to The Chase. There was an email sent round with a better description that indicates that is the kind of show it will be but I can't seem to find it in my inbox!

Either way this will be something of a controversial choice in the quizzing community as CJ is, either rightly or wrongly, considered to be one of the weaker Eggheads in terms of general knowledge and already a few moanings have emerged on Facebook. It will be interesting to see how this pans out and whether it will be a replacement of Eggheads or run alongside it.

  1. Some of the criticism of CJ is rather unfair - after all , who ISN'T weaker than Kevin and Pat? Or for that matter, how many of those criticising think that they could beat Barry, Chris, Daphne or Dave in a fair fight?

Besides, the fact is that such criticism misses the point. A quiz show is primarily a piece of entertainment. And like him or loathe him, CJ is entertaining. I think it's easy to underestimate just how important the 'persona' CJ used on the show was to establishing its fan base in the early days. I know quite a few ordinary members of the public who would tune in religiously just so they could get annoyed at him, and in the hope that they would see him lose.

It's probably fair to say that CJ had less in the way of serious quizzing credentials than the other Eggheads when the show started, but he worked hard to improve throughout his time in the show, and there were subjects in which he was rarely ever beaten. And I'll make this prediction, anyone who takes him too lightly on the new show could find themselves coming a cropper.

  3. Just awful. Watched ten minutes, and hated every second of it.

  4. Is this type of behaviour what the BBC think the public want to see? I will not watch another episode of this infantile carry on by C J. At least I will not have to listen to Mr. Vine's ageist comments to Daphne any more.
