British Buzzer Quiz Championships

 

As part of this years British Quizzing Championships  (info HERE) a buzzer tournament is taking place. The British Buzzer Championships is designed for teams of 5 (although solo players can enter with a scratch team) and will take place in Northampton on  Sunday 5th September. The event can be found HERE and Alors on Dunks are already entered so I may well see you there!

OQL ICC Final

 Over the weekend, the final of the Online Quiz League International Culture Challenge took place. The competition attracted hundreds of players from around the world and it was all whittled down to the four you can see on the video below. A great game, well worth an hour of your time. Brain of Britain - Returns Monday 1st August!

Brain of Britain returns to BBC Radio 4 on 1st August 2022 for the latest series in the usual slot. It seems there are some big names from the quizzing community taking part this series, as usual, and good luck to everyone who has/is due to take part!

Zephyr Quiz League

 

I have mentioned both on here, and Twitter (@quizaddictblog), how much fun I have been having in the Zephyr Quiz League so thought I would share a video of a recent Game of the Week. The quiz is based out of India but attracts players from all over the world and as you will see from the video, there is a wide range of questions, well written and nicely balanced. Certainly my favourite mixed MIMIR at the moment!

Daily Quizzes will return!

You may well have noticed the daily quizzes stopped a few days ago, and whilst I was enjoying writing them, a lack of feedback meant I decided people weren't interested so gave up the idea. However, since I actually stopped I have had several messages both on email and Twitter asking when they will resume and looking at the site stats, it does seem plenty of people were engaging with the Daily Quiz, just not necessarily giving any feedback or mentioning scores. All perfectly fine of course and as it is now obvious they were being played, Ill return top the sets on Monday 25th July :)

Podcast

 The Podcast is nearing its 1st anniversary and with over 250 episodes available, now is the perfect time to catch up. Its all hosted over at PodBean but can be accessed on any major podcast platform (most of my listeners seem to come via Spotify). The aim of the podcast is simple, quick fire questions....15 questions and answers in around 5 minutes. If you get chance to like, subscribe and share on your given platform please do!

Online Quiz League - Registrations Open (and Sample Video)

 I have had a few emails and Twitter messages about the last post I made regarding registrations being open for the Online Quiz League. Season 8 begins on 31st August 2022, and new teams or indeed solo players have until the week before to sign up. All the information about the league including past question sets, rules and general info can be found on the site HERE

In seasons gone by, games have also been recorded as "Game of the Week" and I've posted a few links below to check them out. If you are brand new to Quiz League style quizzing the best way to learn is by seeing a game played out in full.

Only Connect Returns - 29th August

 

Quizzy Mondays are back on the horizon after the BBC announced the return of Only Connect on Monday 29th August. No word yet on when University Challenge may make an appearance but it seems, due perhaps to the Commonwealth games, the show is having a later start this year.

Podcast - Update and Guest Setters

There has been a barrage of new Podcast episodes lately which you can see below. With the one year anniversary coming up I have been thinking of some new ideas for year two.

One thing I have been meaning to do is have some "guest setters". This would involve setting 15 questions, any subject, any difficulty. If you have any business/website/event you run I am happy to mention that as part of your episode and Ill do all the reading/presenting so it would just be a case of providing 15 questions.

Podcast - 1st Anniversary - Ideas

 

It has crept up on me a little bit, but in a few weeks The Quiz Addict Podcast will turn one year old! In that short period of time, I will have released circa 275 episodes in all and when I first started it up, I didn't dream I would get the download numbers I have. So, if you have every listened to an episode, a very big thank you. I enjoy setting questions and without my pub quiz to run now, the podcast as been a nice outlet for me to keep on writing.

Anyway, I am looking for ideas to do something to commemorate the 1st year anniversary. I was thinking possibly a live episode, 30 mins on something like Twitch so there can be an interactive element? A mega episode with 100 questions? Or a day of hourly episode as I did for the movie marathon? I certainly would like to do something a bit different so if you have any ideas let me know!

Online Quiz League

 

The latest season of the Online Quiz League game to an end this week with Congratulations going to Mangoes who wrapped up the Division 1 title. Congratulations also to The Chase star Paul Sinha who topped the individual rankings with his team taking third place overall.

Its been another terrific season and anyone reading this who has yet to be involved, I would urge you to give it a try. The next season starts on 31st August so there is plenty of time to get involved. All the information including previous question sets, rules, standings etc is available HERE

Even if you are an individual or duo looking for a team, OQL will help find you a suitable team. Literally all is needed is a device you can access zoom and availability on a Wednesday evening at 8pm.

Book Suggestion - Science #1

 One of my weak areas for quiz has always been Science, for a variety of reasons, and thus my book shelves are rammed with all kinds of Science books and reference works I have used to try and help me improve.  Over the next few weeks Ill share a few links to some of the books I have found most useful.

First up is Lisa Jardine and her work 'Ingenious Pursuits'. Firstly, please ignore the price in the link below. If you click below and then click "Used and New", you will find it much cheaper (under £1) second hand. This is a terrific read that looks at the Scientific revolutions of the 17th and 18th centuries, the key figures involved and the achievements they made. It is fact packed, contains plenty of detail but still moves through the era at a quick pace giving some good context to all the facts being thrown around!

This has certainly helped my base level of Science in the areas covered and certainly worth a look!
