Celebrity Mastermind - Episode 10

Celebrity Mastermind - Episode 10

Well, for the final time this series it was time to settle down to the tenth Episode of Celebrity Mastermind. Sunday afternoons seems like a nice time slot for this show especially after Sunderland's FA Cup Victory earlier in the afternoon.

Contenders -

Martin Lewis
Nihal Arthanayake
Sarah Storey
Dan Walker

Money expert Martin Lewis was the first to take to the Celebrity Mastermind chair getting a very easy set of questions on Superman. It would have took very little knowledge of Superman to get a few of these questions right and Lewis lapped it up. Martin has a very good website with money advice, a great forum and loads of tips on it for what its worth. He scored 12 points in this, which is a very goof score in the 90 second Celebrity Mastermind rounds.

Nihal Arthanayake answered on Glenn Hoddle, another really easy set for even casual football followers and a few old chestnuts for general quizzes in there too. 7 points I thought was a poor score given the questions but its all for Charity and Nihal Arthanayake seemed to enjoy it.

Sarah Storey next on Sex and the City the Early Years. Not something I have any idea about at all having never seen the show, I managed to get a few based on probably what I had heard at quizzes before.Sarah Storey seemed confident but only managed 8 and I thought there were some tough questions in there, although it could have been an easy set as I know so little about it. Either way 8 was just enough to keep Sarah in contention.

The Gunpowder Plot was tackled by Dan Walker, Football Focus Presenter, and having taken on a decent subject choice I was wanting him to do well. A good set of questions and Walker showed some good knowledge and a few pauses here and there as well as taking a while to answer one or two questions however lead him to score 9 points and into second place.

Standings after first round -

Martin Lewis - 12
Dan Walker - 9

Sarah Storey - 8
Nihal Arthanayake - 7

So it was shaping up to be close, a great GK round from either of tonights Celebrity Mastermind contestants could see them take the final show. Nihal Arthanayake came first, the Radio 1 DJ who seemingly had worked with John Humphreys before and really Nihal needed a good round to win. As usual the GK round was very gettable but Nihal missed a few really obvious questions. As usual the Celebrities tend to get a few questions based on their own interests. Also another question on the North East this series making me think the question setters may have been from my neck of the woods! Nihal picked up the pace later in the round and thanks to a few good runs scored a respectable 12 points taking his total to 19. Not enough to win but Nihal Arthanayake made a good go of it.

Sarah Storey next and she really seemed a bit phased by the chair, much more so than in her first round. She managed a score of 8, taking her total to 16 and certainly meaning she would be last place.

Dan Walker raced along early on lapping up the easy questions, clearly a decent level of general knowledge held by the presenter who once wrote to Des Lynam asking for his job. The score rose and rose throughout the round. A great total of 16.

Martin Lewis was now under pressure needing 14 to win, he got carried away with his rant on savings but then settled into the Celebrity Mastermind chair for his chase for the Victory. The set was quite easy, he was relaxed and confident scoring 14 points in the General Knowledge round which meant he beat Dan Walker by just the one. Credit to Walker for winning the GK round but congratulations to Lewis for the overall victory.

Celebrity Mastermind Episode 10 Final Standings -

Martin Lewis - 26
Dan Walker - 25
Nihal Arthanayake - 19
Sarah Storey - 16

Well that is it for another series of Celebrity Mastermind. Although toned down more than previous series I feel, and certainly no where near on par with the fun and challenge of the original Mastermind, I have to say I have enjoyed Celebrity Mastermind and its just a shame there couldn't be a permanent weekly spot on Sundays for the show.
