Connections Quiz League - Game of the Week

 

The latest competition from the Online Quiz League got underway this week with the launch of the Connections Quiz League. The above video links to the Game of the Week. We played earlier in the week and it was such a fun experience, I cant wait for next week! The league is likely to run for multiple seasons so I will post up details about how to register once this is confirmed. 

Podcast Suggestion - 50 Things That Made the Modern Economy

 

Podcasts have played quite a large role in keeping me sane during lockdown and indeed it has given me the chance to catch up with an ever growing "to listen to" list. Over the last few weeks I have indulged in this terrific series from the BBC '50 Things That Made the Modern Economy'. In 9-minute episodes the show looks at key innovations throughout history and tells the stories in engaging, anecdotal and informative ways. Each episode throws so much information at you that it just flies by! Worth hunting down on the podcast service of your choice

All Things Quiz - Play A Long Quiz Omnium

 

All Things Quiz continues to provide regular quality content, and the latest video is one I particularly like. A play-a-long version of the Quiz Omnium series they have been running. Enjoy and make sure to follow the channel to keep up with all Gareth's updates!

Book Suggestion - Martin Gilbert 'A History of the 20th Century'

Lockdown 3 (or is it still Lockdown 1?) here in the UK has given me a chance to get stuck into some of the larger tomes that have been sitting on my shelves, in this case, for quite a few years. I picked up this 3 volume work to try and plug some of the gaps in my history knowledge. Its a superb, readable and "to the point" account of the century and covers all areas in good detail. In terms of quizzing its pretty much perfect for picking up the key figures, facts, dates and events and at just over 2000 pages for the whole collection, its an effort well worth making

Highbrow MIMIR

 ....and probably worth mentioning that if you enjoyed the video I posted up yesterday, then there is still time to sign up for the Highbrow MIMIR event which will use the same format but will focus on different subjects...

Lowbrow MIMIR - Game of the Week

 

I have mentioned several times on the site the 'Lowbrow MIMIR' event currently being held by the Online Quiz League. The competition has been running 4 weeks now and is just about at the half way stage. The team have eventually got round to posting some games up online for people to see and what better wat to start that with this corker. All 4 could be considered for the overall crown including Jenny Ryan from the Chase, David Stainer (Brain of Britain and Only Connect winner), Phil Small - One of the top UK quizzers across all formats and music expert Bob De Caux.

So sit back and enjoy quizzing at the finest level....

 Channel 4 have recently announced a new quiz show - 'The Answer Trap' hosted by Anita Rani. With some well know quality question setters on board the show promises to through up some great content!

OQL Highbrow MIMIR

 

The newest solo competition from the Online Quiz League is the Highbrow MIMIR due to start in March. After the success of the ongoing Lowbrow event which I mentioned earlier in the year, this competition will focus on subject considered be more highbrow. Its a fun format, results in you playing competitive matches against people of your own ability and as with everything from the OQL, will have a high standard of setting!

OQL Speed Quizzing event - Saturday February 20th

In 11 days time, on Saturday 20th February, the Online Quiz League will be running its first Online Speed Quizzing event. All you need is access to Zoom and a device to play! Speedquizzing combines great questions with a interactive format and with the OQL setting team on board this is sure to be a great way to spend your Saturday afternoon.

MK Quiz League

 

Congratulations to the Hittites who were crowned Champions of the MK Quiz League on Monday after an undefeated Season. The MK Quiz League was one of many that went online late last year as the prospect of getting back to face to face quizzing slipped away. Luckily, the league was opened up to outsiders and I was able to join up with a great team and we had a fun season competing on this format. With 10 rounds, individual questions and themed sections, the league has a somewhat unique format and it has been a pleasure to play.

If you live in the Milton Keynes area then there are spaces open for the next season which is due to start around April. If you are outside of the area but are keen to play, get in touch with Ed on the link below and he will be able to help out. The current rules state that in every game at least 2 of the players must be Milton Keynes based. The information for the league, past questions and tables etc can be found HERE

Equizition - New Online Quiz

 

Running along similar lines to Learned League, Equizition has recently launched as daily online quiz league. Each weekday you are presented with 8 challenging questions to get stuck into, going 1 on 1 with an opponent from your division. This has been the first week of the current season and there has been a great range of questions, plenty of info learned and a couple of one day specials thrown into the mix. Sign up is currently free and you can access the questions and register your interest for the league HERE

OQL Speed Quizzing Event - 20th February

 

The latest of many events planned, and currently running, from the team behind the Online Quiz League (see here for details) is a Speed Quizzing Buzzer event taking place from 12pm until 4pm on Saturday 20th February. Places are limited so if you are interested now is the time to sign up.
