A much
more diverse mix of subjects this week than in some of the previous heats in
this edition.
Annabelle
strode up to the chair first to take this weeks General Knowledge round. A
solid GK round was needed to apply pressure on the other contestants and the round looked promising early on with
Annabelle settling into the round well. A stumble on a question on Battleships
began a spiral of wrong answers that slowed the scoring. At the end of the
round Annabelle had reached 16, a respectable score.
Jeremy
Sullivan next and early on a question on the scientific name for Sugar seemed
to produce a halt. Its one of those questions you feel you should know, but
under the pressure of the lights I imagine the pressure mounts when the answers
doesn’t come straight away. The scoring continued and Jeremy notched up points
on all manner of subjects but time was against him and he ended the round
matching Annabelles 16.
Edana
next and needing 8 points to take the lead it looked good early on but the
questions seemed not to suit her and the on the whole, a lot of 50/50s seemed
to go the wrong way but a after the buzzer answer on Kalasnikov meant Edana had
done enough to take the league and give Alex a target.
Alex
needed 8 to progress and after questions on Love Island, Teeth Grinding and The
Help Alex fell into the nightmare we all would fear going on the show of a
string of wrong answers on the GK round. A selection of highbrow questions
meant Alex got back on track but the set included not only a few stinkers, but
also a few questions so long that by the end I had forgotten what was being
asked! (An issue with I imagine is 10-fold worse in the chair). Despite this
Alex was within reach as the timer ticked down and had an after-the-buzzer
question about 1980s pop (The Communards) which proved costly. With head in
hands, Alex knew the third 16 of the round wasn’t enough and congratulations go
to Edana who took the victory and moved onto the Semi Final.
