I do not usually include Eggheads in my usual run through of quizzing tv shows even though, despite it being nearly 1000 episodes old, I still really enjoy and watch regularly. Seeing as Eggheads is part of my quiz marathon tonight I feel obliged to include it here and it was nice to see The Forum take on the Eggheads being from Gateshead, a town local to me.

The first matchup was on Music, and seeing as how The Forum got together on a music forum, they surely had a good chance of beating Chris Hughes. The Forum had Ross representing them who made a point of stating he enjoyed metal before correctly getting a Aha question right but Chris didn't know Anthony Costa was from Blue giving Ross a chance on a musicals question which he got right. This left him with a question on the type of instrument Grello is, he was forced to guess but failed (right answer was Sleigh Bells). Whenever it goes to sudden death you always feel the Eggheads have the upper hand but Chris failed on classical music and Ross from The Forum had a Radiohead question white he knew straight away putting him into the final, solid performance all round. Of course I was cheering The Forum on with them being local!

Science was next, one of my personal weak areas and the reaction from The Forum was the same and the Eggheads soon to be ex-member CJ was chosen next.Tom from the Forum felt he was "taking the dive for the team". CJ often the most entertaining of the Eggheads was in subdued mode on this occasion. Tom from The Forum was forced to guess the second question which he managed to do correctly. CJ himself managed to guess correctly on the last question taking the round to sudden death and it was back to the usual story when it comes to Sudden death and after a great effort Tom from The Forum was out of contention with CJ through.

Geography was next which took some deciding but The Forum put Jon forward and took on Barry Simmons. Straight away Barry was under pressure and as usual with the Eggheads when they guess they seem to guess right. The Capital of the UAE proved no problem for The Forum's Jon and again Barry wasn't sure but managed to work the answer out. Jon however didn't know how many countries bordered Bolivia and Barry knocked him out in style. One of my favourite Eggheads moments remains when Barry managed to beat a team of 5 alone!

The Forum really needed a win next and Film and TV was the subject with Andrew taking on Pat Gibson, vowing to "test himself" against possible the finest quizzer in the country. At 2-2 Andrew had to take a guess at the director of Cinema Paradiso and answered correctly meaning Pat was left with a third question which he needed to get, and did taking it to sudden death for a third time. Pat is virtually unbeatable in Sudden Death on Eggheads and Andrew found this out as he became the third memebr of The Forum to loose out on the final. With Pat, Barry, CJ and Daphne in the final I did not like the chances of the Forum unless Dave was the secret weapon!

The final was soon at 2-2, Dave seemed to be leading The Forum but the third question was a tough one regarding the playing career of Ian Botham in Australian Cricket, guessing at Queensland which was correct. The pressure was on the Eggheads and were stumped but Barry seemed to lead the decision in answering correctly taking it to sudden death. The Eggheads having lost the last two games now had The Forum in sudden death which is probably what they prefer. The Forum guessed correctly about Franklin being on the $100 bill and the Eggheads were faced with identifying who Alfred Molina married, getting it correct. The Forum certainly seemed to have the Eggheads worried and when they got their next question right and the Eggheads were worrying about a question over the introduction of the National Curriculum which they seemed to guess at.....and got right! A great final round!

Sadly, despite deserving the victory The Forum fell short on the next question and The Eggheads had  the chance to win and took it well.

A cracking episode of Eggheads tonight and the Forum proved themselves to be an excellent quizzing team and did the north east proud.
