Film Recommendation - Quiz Show

Quiz Show (1994)

I have only actually managed to see this film over the festive break, after meaning to for years. After doing so I would highly recommend Quiz Show to anyone with even a vague interest in quizzing or indeed anyone who appreciates a great film.

The film comes from Robert Redford was was Oscar Nominated in 1994. Ralph Fiennes is in the lead role and its all about a TV Quiz Show, namely Twenty One which aired in America. It is all based on true events which make it more engaging and the whole caste and crew have done a wonderful job.

The film deals with the corruption of the quiz shows in American in the 1960's and the revelations that popualr contestants would be given the answers to ensure victory and hence keep the ratings up. Even back then, 30 years before Millionaire, TV producers knew big cash prizes meant viewers and viewers meant advertisers. This film follows the tale of Twenty One, a simple head to head gameshow, in which the more shows the inner stays on for, the more money they earn. The production team "fix" it so contestants with appeal get the answers, get the cash and they get the ratings.

What happens in this film is though one of the contestants who has been given answers is failing in the ratings and they spot a new possible guy to take his place. All doesn't go well, an eager journalist gets on the case and all is revealed.

What I liked about the film, apart from the fact its about Quizzing, is that the film doesnt really have a good buy. Everyone of the major characters is somehow in the wrong so you don't really know who to root for and everyone will have a different view.

Above all else though this is a cracking slice of drama, essential for quiz fans and just a darn good film.

As you can see the film is very cheap to buy on DVD now and here is a link to it on Amazon....enjoy
